Sterling Chaney received a B.F.A. in Sequential Art from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2016. He has over 10 years of professional experience in graphic design, illustration, and comics. He lives in Lubbock, Texas.

 

When he’s not drawing, Sterling enjoys playing the drums and petting the occasional dog.

  • How did you get your start?
    I've been drawing my entire life and have always enjoyed making friends laugh with my drawings and stories. When I was in the third grade, I learned what a Cartoonist was and decided that was the path for me. I took various art classes when I was young and went to the Savannah College of Art and Design to get a degree in Sequential Art. After graduating, I have taken the initiative by making and self-publishing my own books which I then sell at local comic cons and book festivals.
  • What is your illustration process like?
    Almost always, my drawings start with a mechanical pencil and a sketchbook - I feel that I have the most control with my hand in traditional media. Once I'm happy with a rough sketch, I put it into Adobe Photoshop and draw on top of it with my Wacom Cintiq (a drawing monitor). I like to use the digital brushes made my Kyle Webster.
  • Are you available for freelance or commissions?
    I'm always available to talk if you would like to work together! My availability for projects varies from month to month, but I'd love to hear what you have in mind.
  • What are your rates?
    My illustration/design rates vary depending on the scope of the project and my availability. Please contact me and let me know what you have in mind and I'd be happy to respond with a quote. Thanks!
